Sew Grateful Fabric Giveaway

It's been ever-so-long since I hosted a giveaway here on the blog. More than a year in fact! If that doesn't cause a scandal in blogging circles, I don't know what will*. Let's rectify that right now...

jersey

To celebrate the opening of my fabric shop, and to coincide with Debi's Sew Grateful Week, I'm having a giveaway of one metre of the knit fabric of your choice from my shop.

To enter, leave a comment on this post with anything you want to tell me about. Except if it's mean. Internet high fives to everyone who plays along and makes it interesting. I'll post the fabric anywhere in the world except Antarctica. Bonus entries are awarded if you blog / twitter / Facebook / any other cyber-shenanigans but you'll have to come back to this blog post to leave additional comments or I'll lose track. If you are a mysterious person who doesn't have a clickable link to enable me to stalk find you, leave your email address too. I'll close up comments and randomly pick a winner on (Saturday) 18th of February.

*Actually, I do. Monetisation. Disclosure. The proper terminology for knit bindings. Children's underwear.

  2. Amanda. Friend. I need these fabrics because my new year's resolution was to not BUY fabric, but I didn't say anything about winning them!

  3. Hello! I have still not yet used the chilli knit I bought from you but hell, it doesn't count as spending on things I don't need if I don't spend any money on it, right? So count me in.

My interesting thing for today is that I made a strawberry hat from red and green fleece but now can't tell if it looks too much like a tomato rather than a strawberry. It may need sequin seeds.

  4. Something exciting...... I did human dissection when I was at uni. Perhaps that explains my,interest in your finger ( add mad scientist laugh at this point). Now I play with blood some people even let me take it from them too!

  5. they are gorgeous fabrics, may NEED to buy some! (of course winning some would be even better!)

  6. A whole year? Shock, horror! Congrats on the shop opening. Here are the first four random things that pop into my head:
    - It's cold here in Chicago but I'm loving snuggling with my big squishy dog
    - I always have uncontrollable cravings for sweet stuff (especially of the chocolatey version) so I'm about to brave the cold, purely to buy a big pile of bad-for-me food.
    - I recently decided that I need some hot pink in my apartment.
    - the most random memory just popped into my head of falling on my bum in the middle of the street during my 15th birthday trip to see a show in Edinburgh.

  7. Ooooh go on then. Here's something I've been meaning to post on your blog for a few days.......I went into about 20 shops last week trying to buy a swimming costume and all I could think about as I tried them all on was that I wished I was brave enough to make one of my own as awesome as yours :) (had to go for a very boring black tankini in the end!)

  8. I've never sewn with knit before. Surely I should win??!!

  12. I love the fabric with the hippos listed on your shop!. so cute. And here I am number 1 again!, so I don't think I will win this giveaway, but well, I got to see your beautiful fabrics!.

  13. Oh, I'll play along. I'll comment that I got the most adorable skirt for Rylee this weekend and was lamenting that the pattern for it was SO simple but the lovely, heavy knit would be very difficult to source. It's why I'm captive to Gymboree, but would love to get some pretty knits to sew her a copy.

  14. Posted to Facebook, too. I hope I win or a friend wins and gives me the fabric.

  15. Fun! I love your fabrics... so dreamy!

Fun fact about me - When I was on a family vacation in Lake George, NY, at about age 6, I broke my arm twice within 24 hours. I decided to try monkey bars for the first time, fell and got a hairline fracture. Went to the hospital & got a splint. Next day, not to be one-uped by said bars, I tried again. Fail - down I go again. Arm *legit* broken. My parents were pi**ed. :)

I've been doing the same thing metaphorically ever since. ;)

  16. Interesting about sewing - I am teaching myself to sew working may way through Vintage Style for Kids but the patterns have "errors" - I thought about emailing you to ask for advice about how to sort a problem out but I was too shy and chickened out

Interesting about today - I have cooked the most awesome stir fry in years and there is no one here to eat it, the boys all have the runs and have gone to bed.

Good luck with the fabric shop

  17. Mmmm flummoxed about the interesting thing bit!!!! But would love a chance to win some yummy fabric. Would have a go at making my Emily a lovely Summer dress x

  18. Wait, does the entertainment value of our comment increase the likelihood of winning? Because I may have blown my best stuff on some of your earlier posts for nothing!!! Oh the tragedy!

Also, I looked at the finger picture (I can't resist!). Not as bad as I feared, but definitely one you'll remember for a while. If only it had been the middle finger. You could have flipped the bird for weeks and blamed the injury. That's the only way I could ever manage to do it. I can't even bring myself to flip my husband off when we are joking around. But if I had that bandage... *sigh* yes, I'm passive-aggressive like that.

What were we talking about? Ah, fabric. I love that cloud print on aqua.

  19. I need something in blue as I have NOTHING fit for a boy in my stash. Although I do not know if it is in fact a boy I'm carrying, I'm so sure of it, I'm not going to wash all the homemade dresses I've got.

  21. I have never sewn with knit before but I keep seeing lovely things people have made with knit, and heard them talking about how easy it is to sew with. So please count me in for your giveaway.
Interesting? I have a cat who is obsessed with brushes (make up brushes, pastry brushes, bottle brushes) and she keeps stealing them to chew, even when I hide them on the top of the cupboard.
Very cute fabric - good luck wioth your shop.

  23. I have no exciting news, but the 18th february will be the 11 month anniversary of me breaking my kneecap into bits...so I must deserve more fabric!

  24. What a great giveaway! I had a baby two weeks ago and would love to make him some clothes :-)

  25. We have just had to turn the boiler off for the second time while doing a makeover on a room for our two boys aged 1 and 3, I have been waiting to do this room for 4 years and am beyond excited and radiators are really boring. The room has a red and blue star, stripe, spot theme so your fabrics are just perfect to make something lovely for it.

  26. Hmmm. Something interesting. I struggle to think right now as the ill toddler has wiped my brain .... I can not funciton.
Ummm. Well I got a sewing machine when I was up the duff. now it's collecting dust, but I do want to make things, so winning would give me the klick up the arse I need. Fact.

  27. What to say, what to say... How about a confession?

I didn't send my 12 year old back to school after her orthodontist appt this morning 'cause I didn't feel like hauling the 4 year old to the grocery store. That's some good parenting for you!

  28. The first live concert that I attended was Garbage at The State Theater in Detroit, MI! That's about as interesting as it gets.

Love your style and blog (and your patterns and your new fabrics...how's that for stalking and obscene butt kissing?)!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Woweee! I'm so glad I read this! I've being looking at jersey material as I'm going to make a long maxi dress to wear to a friends wedding in summer. I have a skingraft on my leg so want to custom make my dress to cover me leg and suit me. A length of some of your beautiful fabric would be amazing! I have a blog here: please feel free to stop by and stalk me! And congratulations and good luck on opening your shop! xxx

  30. I forget I don't know Danish when watching Borgen. I think I can fully understand what's going on without reading the subtitles so I can read blogs and knit. I can't. I have no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Me please but nothing interesting to say here!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congratulations on the shop, great news. I would love to enter your giveaway, but as for anything interesting to tell...I talk too much on my own blog to have anything left to share here...but hope I can still qualify!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ohhh how I laughed! You are officially my new favourite blog, you have my sense of humour, literally, it's like reading what's in my head... (If I were more talented and had sheared the side off my finger this week). I have no small people in my life, I am tempted to steal one just so I can buy some of your fabrics though. I am now going to pootle off and mention you on facebook so I have more chance of a win, I HAVE to have some of your fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have FBed you...I shall now leave you to come up with amusing imaginations of what this acronym could mean, if it weren't something as dull as 'facebook'.... fenestrate bongos? felate bananas? fried boomerangs?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love sewing with knits! lovely shop and congrats! Watching the Westminster Dog show tonight while reading some blogs! thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oof. I never win anything, but I haven't a chance of affording your lovely fabric otherwise, so here's my shot.

Something interesting...I was nearly kidnapped by a crazy Creole when I was 16. He had plans for me. How's that?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ooh, I love a giveaway! I'll make undies for myself since I don't have a girl to sew for. What IS the proper term for knit bindings? I shouldn't share anything this time since I over-shared last time about my finger-tasting sweet potatoes.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I never win anything, either. But I'm loving the elephant knit because my son is addicted to elephants (he was an elephant for Halloween) and he'd lose his mind if he had something with elephants on it.

Something interesting - I just turned 40 and found out I'm pregnant. How's that for a birthday present?

    ReplyDelete
  39. My boys just had 100th day at school today - and both of them haven't missed or been late for any of those 100 days. I'm very impressed. I'd love to win some knit fabric as I'm wanting to sew some t-shirts for my boys. Thanks for a chance to win! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Interesting? I don't do interesting. Apparently I just do laundry. Lots and lots of it. Especially when all three children have a sickness bug at the same time. Sometimes I pretend to do interesting things, and then I blog about it! (http://bygaenor.blogspot.com/).

    Thank you for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't feel like I deserve to win because I already bought some cloud fabric and I have three lovely pairs of your trousers, but I'm going to enter anyway because I'm greedy :)
Interesting fact: One of my boobs is faster than the other and when Morgan feeds he holds on to my fingers like the handles of a motorbike, almost so he doesn't fall off - it's that fast.
Probably TMI, but all I seem to have done in the last 4 weeks is feed, so it's kind of all I've got :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm always glad to enter a giveaway. Sadly, I never have a chance to win anything... But I keep trying. Perhaps ths time I'll have a chance to win the hippos fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Friend Amanda, the prettiness is too much. Something interesting... Well, besides being your official stalker, I used to be in a circus, so the next time you see someone unicycling/stilt walking or hanging from a tightrope outside your bedroom window ... yeah, that'll be me. And for the sake of cuteness, I have a squishy new boyo to sew for now, so re-hee-heeally need some of that gorgeous fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I would like to win please-last year I bought 3 patterns without realising they were for knit fabrics only. At least I could make something from one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Woo what a nice giveaway! And lovely fabric too...:)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thanks for inspring a no-sewer to have a go, so far I have made a wonky Kindle sleeve, several draught excluders and some lumpy Barbie clothes (Darts! who knew!)

  49. You'll post to anywhere in the WORLD? Even Decatur, Mississippi? It's a real place, I didn't make it up. A soon to-be-born granddaughter inspired me to start sewing after a long hiatus. My 30 yr old Necchi 522 is producing a 2nd generation of baby clothes. Love your blog. Love your designs.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The red elephants are especially cute. And I'll use the old sleep deprivation excuse to explain my lack of commenting cleverness.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I dont have anything interesting to say this morning, but I laughed out loud at Cindy*s comment. I love her parenting style! Hope I win. cmwark (at) telus (dot) net

  52. Hello. I need a metre of your beautiful knits to help heal my broken head. 'Broken head!?' I hear you exclaim 'Oh my gosh, are you ok!?' Well yes, and thank you for your concern. I am still very sore, but getting better every day. What happened? Well to cut a long story short there was an unfortunate incident with an escaped rabbit hunt and an ill-placed apple tree branch. I guess if we're being pedantic, it was my head that was ill-placed...in a very vigorous collision with a very hard object kind of a way. Cue a very loud scream and a disproportionately (disappointingly?) small amount of blood. If nothing else, thank you for the opportunity to discuss my calamity at length, it may not have been 'something interesting'. but it's been cathartic. I salute you, kind samaritan fabric lady.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What to say? I stayed up till 3:00am to sew a shirt for my little girl just so she could say "no thank you." pass the coffee.

  58. This is so wonderful that you are doing this giveaway, what a great Valentine to us to have a chance to win! I am so excited to try sewing with a knit - I am new to sewing clothes and have a pattern I want to make for my Kindergartner and it's knit. This would be a great way to dive in!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think I'm in love with those little elephants!

That wasn't a very exciting thing to tell you, was it? How about...my cat was born the day before Halloween?

  60. I just liked you on Facebook :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. What a fantastic giveaway love these fabrics! I'm on a fabric diet of late so would LOVE to win some.. thanks (@mrsshilts)

    ReplyDelete
  62. I wish I were a more of a creative-story sort of thinker, but alas, I am not. My husband would have been able to come up with some radical malfeasance that would end with a flying monkey handing you 200 rupees...but I digress. I like knits. I'm not as afraid of them as I probably should be. The end. Thanks for reading.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The cloud fabric is blowing my mind! Hmm... something interesting to share... I make a mean strawberry infused vodka. It's the simple pleasures!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Fun Fact: in France, they often change the names of American movies to cater to the French audience. For example, the Hangover= Very Bad Trip, One for the Money= Recherche Bad Boys Desesperement (translates desperately seeking bad boys), Just In Time = Time Out, etc.

:) GREAT giveaway! love the hippos!

    ReplyDelete
  65. that hippo fabric might just be the cutest thing I've seen all day!
what else is today full of? well, I legit accidentally spent an hour and a half trying to figure out what pattern I have. I found this envelope with most of the important dress pieces in it (lacking sleeves, cuffs, and facings...no big) with most of the actual envelope gone. From a tiny scrap noticed while scrutinizing the fine print of what turned out to be advertisement for thread I saw Maudel which combined with the British spelling going on ("Centre back") lead me to Maudella company...I still have no clue what my pattern is.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I just read about a 14 year old who was able to build his own fusion reactor that he hopes to use in applications for cancer treatment and airport security. I got pretty excited by that. And by your giveaway. :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Ooh, pretty pretty! I think I'd make something for Boy if I was to win! My thought is that I want to start a journal to travel with a pattern I won from Debi, random but would be so brilliant for a future seamstress to find! In fact I may write notes in all my patterns now just in case some one finds them and uses them in the future... What started all this? Slithers of fabric from a project someone made sometime past in a vintage sewing book I'm reading!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I love those clouds! Tomorrow I have a job interview at the place my boyfriend works eek! Good or bad idea?!

    ReplyDelete
  69. OOOH yes beautiful knits, love love love them! The winner is very lucky indeed. I'm not witty nor have anything interesting to say at the moment, but I do enjoy your blog very much. So thank you for that!

    ReplyDelete
  70. What a lovely giveaway :-) my interesting thing is I've just created s pattern for making little owl cuddlies & they might soon be taking over my house!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would love to win but I am not witty and have nowt interesting to tell you. So I shall go for out and out flattery and tell you that I've just bought an elephant dots tunic, another tunic that I can't remember the fabric name for and I bought the gorgeous purple deer coat from Hannah! :-) I thought my babe needed more of the coo in her life. Sadly you've likely already had the cash for all of them... And spent it on image editing software. (Helen Burgess on FB - not letting me sign in to google...)

  74. i have just made my son a rather ill-fitting shirt and now i am obsessed with sewing him clothes. and i love your cloud fabric!

  82. The most interesting thing I can think of at the moment is that I am sewing lots of reusable washable sanitary pads for victims of sexual abuse in Africa. Apparently large numbers of girls suffer fistulas and are neglected by their families because they are considered unclean. They are treated as outcasts because they are victims.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hm...I liked your asterisk postscript at the bottom of your post, so I'll add to it: Exposed Zipper. I can't believe the flack I got for that one, and then a year later some big major blogs have featured projects with...hm....yes...the EXPOSED ZIPPER and it got them all kinds of love. Which leads me to the only possible conclusion that it must just be the combination of ME and exposed zippers.

Can't wait to win a yard of your gorgeous fabric!!

  84. hey honey, I suddenly have a hankering for a top made of sky blue clouds.. It would be perfect as I have just started an Open Uni course on the weather! I am so glad your shop is going well.

  85. My excitement is finding a new blog to follow and a new online shop full of lovely fabrics to spend in! When a was a kid I had wallpaper which was made up of blue sky, little fluffy clouds and rainbows and the fabric here reminds of that.

  86. I just flew back from DC overnight so am functioning on no sleep but still had to come and check out what I missed while I was away! Woo hoo - a fabric giveaway, oh yes please! I am about to become a grandmother and I actually got to go to Jo-Ann's while I was there. Why don't we have shops like that here? Why is fabric so much more expensive here? Why is my daughter living in DC when she belongs here with her everloving mama? Oh, you probably don't know the answer to that one! But I do need more fabric, please - pretty please?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I've just said goodbye to my sis, bro in law and my cutie nephew and niece, so now time to sit. Being Auntie Kirsty is great but my god am I glad I'm not going to be woken up at four in the morning to find the kids jumping up and down on their bed or at 7 in the morning to hear my fog horn niece yelling 'James needs a wee'.
Your blog makes me chuckle so much. My sis has a birthday cake to make for my nephew next week, I thought I'd give her a few a ideas so I showed her your epic caking skills. Tough act to follow!!

Oh, said newphew above received a reversible hoody for Christmas. Your pattern was great, so easy to follow and looks fab.

    Top give away.

  89. I hate all the boring sludge coloured boys clothes with skulls or "I'm a little s*@t" type slogans all the UK stores seam to sell - would be great to make some cool & colourful everyday basic tees.

And after living in a house full of (3 lots of) Man flu for the last week, I am actual living proof that man-flu is highly contagious and can be caught by females!! except being "Mum" the show has to go on (and on & on...)

  95. AAGH!! I tried to post a comment yesterday and it hasn't appeared it took me ages as the box kept disappearing. Nothing really interesting to say it's quite amazing how boringly sane my life is at the moment. Some lovely fabric would add to my feeling of well being and content!!!

  96. Oh my goooodness! I didn't have a chance to catch up on reading my favorite blogs until now & just saw this fantastic giveaway. I've never had a chance to play with a Euro knit before and I have been coveting that blue cloud print since I first laid eyes on it. Thank you for offering up such goodies and good luck with your shop too! I hope to be able to afford some of the amazing prints you stock sometime in the future ;)

  99. I went to see the Chinese State Circus perform today and had a wonderful time, it was a really great show!
Thanks for the yummy giveaway - I'd love to have a go at making something with a knit fabric. If you don't start selling dresses soon then I'm going to have to buy some rainbow mushrooms fabric as I'm getting desperate I tell you, DESPERATE!!

  101. I received a kombucha scoby (a tea mushroom) from a stranger I met on the internet yesterday. It's not nearly as sketchy as it sounds, she had the most lovely bright yellow kitchen cabinets, and was kind enough as to offer me some sourdough starter as well. Alas, I do not have the time or energy to make sourdough bread! Funnily enough, I am absolutely infatuated with your yellow mushroom fabric. I think it would be fantastic as an accent panel on a black swing dress!

  102. I'm wondering how hard it might be to add knit ribbing to all of Rheya's pajama bottoms so I no longer have to put bobbles round the bottom of them to stop them rolling up and here therefore freaking out. I might use your tutorial above to have a go on a scraggy pair of bottoms first.

I think I should win, just for the use of the word 'scraggy' :P

    ReplyDelete
  103. Hi, I just discovered your blog and I really like the idea to add ribbing to avoid hemming knits... I don't have a serger and always end up with wavy hems... Oh, and I love the clouds print knits, they are just awesome.
    Good luck with your shop!

  104. Love your website. I'm new to sewing so I've stalked you on Pinterest just to be sure and shared some of your work.

I've also shared your page on Facebook with my friends.

Looking forward to you doing patterns for older children:-)

Out of my fabric porn, you are my centrefold ;-)

  105. What wonderful fabrics to choose from in your shop! Thanks for the chance to win some! I feel good about my chances. Many years ago I went through a week where everything fell right into place for me. I would think something, and within an hour it would happen. Silly little things like needing a ride and a friend with a car suddenly appearing. But, still, it was fun. At the end of the week, I commented to a friend that the stars had aligned for me that week. Their reply: the planets were in fact aligned that week. And, funny thing, they are again right now (link to the NASA article). I can't wait to get my hands on some astronaut fabric!

  106. I'm just getting into sewing for my one-year-old son, which means I should venture into knits (I'm a sewing veteran, but this is totally new territory for me). I would love to make him something with the little elephants!

  112. I'm sewing 24 (lined) drawstring bags from Wilko tea towels, to help raise money for the Haiti Hospital Appeal's 'Dream' campaign. It's a campaign to help a team of disabled, Haitian athletes train, and qualify, for the London 2012 Paralympics. My daughter is sacrificing her birthday presents in order to raise money for this. I believe in this cause with all my heart, but I am absolutely sick to death of looking at, and sewing, Union Jack tea towel fabric. Please let me win a metre of anything that doesn't have the Union Jack on it!
